Commercial entities Pinnacle Business Services Inc and Jade’s Wok have each donated $100,000 towards Guyana’s National Chess Team’s participation in the 2022 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Chennai, India.
The Olympiad is the biggest chess event in the world, and more than 150 countries are set to participate in the July/August event. Guyana’s top male chess players who will compete in the event are CM Taffin Khan, CM Wendell Meusa, FM Anthony Drayton, Roberto Neto and Loris Nathoo for the Open Category.
18-year-old Sasha Shariff, 14-year-old Pooja Lam, 12-year-old Anaya Lall, 20-year-old Jessica Callender and 21-year-old Nellisha Johnson will compete in the Women’s category of this tournament.
The two business entities have said they are happy to be able to participate in this initiative, since it helps in the growth and development of the skills of both Guyana’s children and adults.

Additionally, the Guyana Chess Federation would be hosting a fundraising dinner for the team on Saturday, June 25 at 19:00hrs at the Ramada Georgetown Princess Hotel at Providence. The event features an evening of 80s and 90s music paired and a three-course meal.
