However, Health Minister, Dr Frank Anthony on Monday stated that the Infectious Diseases Hospital at Liliendaal, Greater Georgetown, is working on all cylinders and ready to treat severe cases of COVID-19.
He nevertheless noted that equipment is being sourced for other services.
“We are now able to do from mild cases straight up to ICU patients…We have an area in Ocean View that is designated for theatre and so forth but we have not put it into operation. We’re still sourcing the equipment.”
As it relates to their intention to place a maternity section at the facility, he said this is yet to be completed. However, once finished, mothers will be able to deliver their babies as well.
“In the meantime, for maternal patients, they would still have to remain at the Georgetown Hospital and we have a special section which we have built, so that we can test and isolate if they’re positive. They would be able to give birth at the hospital. once we complete that section at Ocean View, then these maternal patients can go across there as well.”
For the month of December, the National COVID-19 measures have been extended and the curfew has remained from 22:30h to 04:00h. It states that no one is permitted to host or attend a private party, banquet hall, bar and club among others.
Failure to comply with the mandatory mask requirement would make persons liable under Section 152 of the Public Health Ordinance.
For the Christmas season, persons have already been warned to avoid gatherings and use other measures to keep themselves sane. Places of worship were also asked to follow suit.
The order also emphasises, among other things, the need for correct and consistent use of a face mask when leaving home; the importance of maintaining the six feet physical distance from others; and the need for good hand hygiene to help reduce the spread of COVID-19.
