Guyana raked in their second medal of the ongoing Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay, on Monday night, striking bronze in the mixed 4×400 m event in athletics.
Malachi Austin and Narissa McPherson were a part of Guyana’s medal-winning 4x400M team
The Guyanese quartet, comprising Malachi Austin, Narissa McPherson, Simeon Adams and Keliza Smith taking the track in that order, stopped the clock at 3:22.30s for third place. The race was won by Brazil, whose team finished in 3:19.98 for gold, followed by Cuba claiming silver in 3:21.01.
This is Guyana’s second medal at the 2025 games, following Raekwon Noel’s record-breaking bronze in the Men’s 200M Butterfly last week.
Also in athletics, Smith also hit the track earlier on Monday, clocking 11.45s for fourth place in the Women’s 100M semi-finals. Smith narrowly missed out on a spot in the event’s final, which was claimed by Jamaica’s Alana Reid, who also clocked 11.45s.
For field events, Anisha Gibbons threw 47.13m for a fifth-place finish in the women’s javelin throw. Colombia’s Valentina Barrios took the top spot on the podium with a 60.16m throw.
