Five persons were on Sunday evening taken into Police custody following the discovery of a quantity of illicit drugs, guns, and ammunition during several exercises.

The Police stated that between 06:00h and 08:00h on the morning in question, they would have conducted several “cordon and search” operations at Vryheid’s Lust, Montrose, Nabaclis and Plaisance, East Coast Demerara during which the items were found.
The Police confirmed that an unlicensed pistol with a live matching round, 300 grams of suspected cocaine and 45 grams of suspected cannabis were discovered.
As a result of this, five persons, including two females, were arrested and were assisting with investigations. They are expected to make their court appearance this week. The intelligence-led operations were headed by a Superintendent of Police.
