5 busted with gun, ammo, wig and crowbar in Berbice

Five men were in the wee hours of Saturday morning busted with an unlicensed pistol with 13 live rounds of ammunition, a rope, a crowbar and a wig, among other items after Police intercepted the car in which they were travelling at Glasgow, East Bank Berbice.
For weeks the Police have travelled to Glasgow New Housing Scheme following several break and enter and larceny reports and on at least two occasions, they had had gone to the community following reports that suspicious vehicles were seen in the area.
On both occasions, the occupants and the vehicles managed to evade lawmen.
However, a patrol from Central Police Station joined forces with a unit from the Reliance Police Station to conduct routine checks in the area.
According to information received, at about 01:30h ranks on the mobile patrol intercepted a motor car and subsequently conducted a search.
At the time, five men with the aforementioned items, along with other items that were hidden were found in the car. The occupants of the vehicle are between the ages of 22 and 33 and were all arrested.
Three of the men are from New Amsterdam while the other two are from Fort Ordnance, Canje and Dazzle Housing Scheme on the East Coast Demerara.
Following the arrest, residents claim that the youngest man is known to the community of Glasgow.
There are reports that one on the suspects is a former Policeman, who was placed before the court for allegedly accepting a $6 million bribe in September last year.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commander, Assistant Police Commissioner Ian Amsterdam when contacted told Guyana Times that the Police initially responded with one patrol and sought back up from Reliance after there were reports that a white car was seen driving around in the housing scheme.
When the car was stopped, two of its occupants attempted to escape but they were apprehended, the commander added.
According to Amsterdam, on Thursday evening, a car fitting the same description was in the vicinity and several men attempted to enter a house but were deterred by Police ranks who responded. It was in the same location, the car was intercepted on Saturday morning.
Police are now trying to ascertain whether the men who were apprehended on Saturday morning are the same people who were attempting to break into the house on Thursday evening.
In recent months, several break and entering cases at Glasgow and surrounding communities have gone unsolved. The commander had told reporters that there was a gang operating out of that community. The men in custody are being grilled and processed for court.
