5 Cubans test positive for COVID-19 in Berbice

…driver escapes from quarantine facility

Five Cubans, who arrived illegally in Guyana through the Corentyne River, have tested positive for COVID-19.
This was disclosed by Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) Chairman, David Armogan on Wednesday.
The Chairman noted that the five were part of a group of 13 persons who illegally entered the country last week. They were all tested and five of the tests returned positive.
Those five persons are currently at a quarantine facility in East Canje. However, the driver who was transporting the Cubans was also placed in quarantine at a facility in East Canje. However, he has since escaped.
He is reportedly from Region Four.
Meanwhile, the man from Number 74 Village, who was making arrangements to leave Guyana and had to take a COVID-19 test which came back positive, has since been located and is in a quarantine facility, Armogan told reporters.
He said that his immediate family members have been instructed to self-quarantine.
It was reported that authorities were on the hunt for him since he had given an incorrect address upon arrival in Guyana on a repatriation flight. (G4)
