5 in custody after ‘Operation Restore Order’ on Essequibo Coast

Five persons have been taken into custody as the Guyana Police Force continues with its operation to restore order in the country.
The Force took the operation to the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) on Saturday where the exercise was conducted between 04:30h and 07:30h. They carried out a cordon and search at the Onderneeming Sandpit area and at Pamona.
The operation was led by Assistant Superintend of Police (ASP) King.
During the exercise, the party of Policemen searched five houses and arrested five people.
Among those arrested were 35-year-old Ron Norton, an electrician of Lot 8 Onderneeming Sandpit; 22-year-old Azaad Hussein, called “Egg man”, a labourer of Lot 28 Middlesex, Essequibo Coast; 19-year-old Mahase Persaud, a labourer of Lot 106 Pomona; and 20-year-old Nazir Hussain, a labourer of Lot 28 Middlesex. They were all arrested on break and enter and larceny offences.
In addition, 24-year-old Delon Adonis, also a labourer of 21-22 Pamona, was arrested on a possession of narcotics charge after he was found with six grams of cannabis.
During the operation, Adonis was searched, and the suspected cannabis was found in his right-side pants pocket. He admitted to ownership and he along with the other four suspects were placed in custody.
Meanwhile, a bicycle was found in a trail leading further into the backlands.
According to the Police, there was no incident during the exercise.
