5-member dart team to represent Guyana in Brazil

A five-member team comprising national champion Sudesh Fitzgerald, Luiz Miguel Ramierz-Merlano, Lallchand Rambharose, Terrence Joseph and Victorine Chandro will grace the shores of Palmas, Brazil to compete in the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) World Championship Qualifier for Central Caribbean and South America.
The players are all aiming to cop a spot at the William Hill World Darts Championship set for December in London, England. The road there will be a tough one since only the winners will be able to secure a spot at the championships.

Fitzgerald won the Caribbean and South American Masters in 2008 which qualified him to represent Guyana at the PDC World Darts Championship, held in London in 2009. In 2008, he reached the semi-finals in the World Darts Federation Americas Cup singles.  The experienced player is hoping for more support for the team, since they are presently facing an expense of US$1700 per person given the rigorous travel agreements. The former Darts Association President has asked that those wishing to lend support contact him on 616-2039. The former Caribbean champion explained that they were conducting intense training sessions at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and would be moving to different venues as a way of learning to perform at an optimum in different conditions given that they are unaware of what to expect in Brazil. The team, which will also have the presence of David Dharamraj, who is a strong supporter of the sport, will depart Guyana on September 20. The three-day tournament, which will be held at the Girasol Plaza Hotel, will begin on September 22.
Meanwhile, current President of the Association, Sheik Yassen has managed to secure the sponsorship of Trophy Stall for a monthly tournament, which begins Friday at the MSC. Prizes will be awarded to the top three performers in the various categories.
