BCB/Pepsi 50-Over Cricket…
– Sinclair, Hooper, Algoo Karim among top performers

The Berbice Cricket Board’s (BCB’s) hectic cricket season continued over the weekend with numerous first division matches being played. In the Pepsi-sponsored Berbice Cricket Board’s 50-Over competition, Rose Hall Town, Port Mourant, Young Warriors, West Berbice and Blairmont registered thumping wins in their respective encounters.

A star-studded Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets Team travelled to Number 70 Village, Corentyne for its encounter with that Upper Corentyne side. Taking first strike, Rose Hall Town posted a huge 312-4 in 44 overs.
National Under-19 class act Junior Sinclair was in belligerent mood, stroking an aggressive 81, as fellow National Under-19 players Kevin Sinclair and Kevlon Anderson scored an even 50 and 44 respectively.
Vidal Crandon and First Class player Eon Hooper also turned in good batting performances for the Rose Hall Town side.
Devindra Budhoo picked up 3-59 for the Upper Corentyne side.
At Port Mourant, the home side defeated Albion by 76 runs. Batting first, Port Mourant scored 244 all out, with wicket- keeper/batsman Andy Mohan stroking an impressive 65, and Joshua Ramsammy (29), Madham Budhoo (26) and Lloydel Lewis (25) being among the runs.
Mahendra Chaitnarine was the pick of the Albion bowlers with 4-38.
In reply, Albion were bowled out for 169, with former National Youth opening batsman Adrian Sukhwa making 34, and Berbice Under-17 wicketkeeper-batsman Antonio February making 28.
T Carmichael bowled brilliantly to pick up 5-52, while Lloydel Lewis’s mesmerising off-spin snared 4-28.
The new and improved Young Warriors Cricket Club registered a comprehensive victory over Rose Hall Canje, which defeated Tucber Park in the first round.
Batting first on a reasonably large Rose Hall Canje ground, Young Warriors recorded 220-7 in their allotted 50 overs. National Under-19 batsman Alex Algoo scored a sensible 52, while Suresh Dhani scored 45.
Bowling for Rose Hall Canje, fast bowler Campton Hope picked up 4-45 in his 10 overs. In reply, Rose Hall Canje struggled to 120 all out in 37 overs, with veteran Mark Sampson scoring 35 and Sasenarine Sukhu scoring 18.
In the encounter between West Berbice and Police, played at the Bush Lot Ground, West Berbice defeated Police by 6 wickets, routing the lawmen for the paltry score of 184 in 43 overs.
Former National player Delbert Hicks missed out on a half-century, scoring 49. Khemraj Mahadeo, another former National player, scored 24. Wendall Baba captured 4-17 and Sherwin Mc Pherson grabbed 3-23.
West Berbice, in reply, blazed away the total without drama, and ended on 185-4 in just 23 overs. Steffan Adams and Sherwin Mc Pherson scored brilliantly, 77 and 68 respectively.
At Cumberland Canje, Blairmont mauled Tucber Park by 7 wickets. Batting first, Tucber Park were blown away for an embarrassing 98, with Clinton Lindee continuing his good form with a score of 39. National Under19 all-rounder Javid Karim, bowling with accuracy and discipline, snared 4-23; and a National Under-17 left-arm spinner picked up 3-23.
In reply, Blairmont cruised to 101-3, with Zameer Nazeer scoring 41, and Javid Karim having a good game with 26 runs. Former National Under-19 pace ace Nial Smith, Gevon Schultz and West Indies female seamer Treymayne Smartt picked up one wicket each. (Brandon Corlette)
