5-year-old drowns while on fishing trip

A five-year-old boy is now dead after he drowned on Monday near the Aqueduct area in Patentia, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Reports are that at 15:00h on Monday, the child’s mother, who resides at Skull City, Patentia, took the youngster and two friends fishing.
The child’s mother told the Police that her son wanted to swim and she allowed him to venture out to where there was a “small area of water”.
Shortly after he began swimming, the child went under. Efforts were made to rescue him, but by the time he was located, he was in an unresponsive state.
He was taken out of the water and rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An investigation has since been launched.
