$500M parking lot for trucks, auto zone facility completed at Grove

…works ongoing at Enmore, other locations

Works on a dedicated heavy-duty truck parking and automotive service zone at Grove, East Bank Demerara, have been completed, and efforts are now being made to iron out utilisation of the facility.
The Grove Truck Parking and Auto Zone spans approximately 14.1 acres and was developed at a cost of approximately $500 million with the capacity to accommodate at least 300 trucks. The facility will primarily serve the East Bank Demerara corridor, providing designated spaces for truck parking, vehicle repairs, and other automotive-related services.
With the physical works completed, the Government will now finalise the modalities and parameters governing the operation of the facility at Grove. This next phase will pave the way for automotive businesses and operators to access the site and commence operations.

On Friday, Housing Minister Collin Croal inspected the newly completed facility ahead of its operationalisation.
According to Croal, the facility will not only help alleviate concerns within residential communities but also create new economic opportunities for persons seeking appropriate spaces to conduct automotive-related businesses.
The Minister further explained that this initiative is in keeping with a commitment by President Dr Irfaan Ali in response to numerous requests from persons operating within the commercial and industrial sectors for appropriate spaces to park, service and repair trucks and other vehicles.
The facilities are also intended to address concerns raised by residents about automotive activities, including vehicle repairs and spray painting, being conducted within residential communities.

Enmore facility
Meanwhile, the housing Minister on Friday also visited a second truck parking and auto zone facility under construction at Enmore, East Coast Demerara. Those works are approximately 50 per cent complete.
That second facility in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) is being developed on approximately 30 acres of land. Infrastructure works there were awarded in six lots and are currently about 50 per cent complete overall, with the most advanced section approximately 80 per cent completed.

According to the Housing Minister, works are expected to be completed before the end of November 2026.
“This is the first phase completed for the first such area that we have in Region Four. The other one will be at Enmore on the East Coast, with this one at Grove targeting the East Bank corridor,” Minister Croal said.

Other facilities
The development of these two facilities forms part of the Government’s broader approach to better organise commercial and automotive activities, reduce their impact on residential communities and provide suitable spaces to support businesses and economic activity.
In fact, works are currently ongoing for other truck parking and automotive service zones at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, and at Hermitage, West Bank Demerara – both in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara). In addition, another facility is being developed at Palmyra, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Moreover, planned future works will see at least one other truck parking and automotive service zone on the Corentyne in the vicinity of the Number 75-76 Villages, as well as another in Region Four along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
These designated facilities will reduced roadside parking, especially by sand trucks and construction vehicles; improved traffic flow and reduced congestion on the roadways; protect public infrastructure, since heavy-duty vehicles have been damaging road shoulders and road edges; support Guyana’s expanding construction sector by creating an organised space for trucks and heavy equipment, and enhanced urban organisation and development planning through designated industrial parking zones.
