Police have recovered a small amount of the stolen $5 million from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) in the possession of an assistant accounts clerk, who has since been taken into custody.
On Monday, Police said that had launched an investigation into the theft of some $5 million from the GECOM, with several employees currently assisting in the probe.
On Tuesday, police said that the incident, classified as simple larceny, involves funds belonging to GECOM. Investigators have not yet disclosed how the money went missing or how much has been accounted for so far.
The investigation is ongoing.
