5th Prime Minister’s Cup set for November 12-14

The fifth edition of the highly-anticipated Prime Minister’s Cup T20 competition will kick off this Friday, November 12, 2021 and will conclude on Sunday, November 14, 2021.
The lucrative tournament is being held in collaboration with the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Culture, Youth and Sport Ministry. Matches will be played at the Queen’s College, Police Sports Club, MYO, Guyana Defence Force, and Demerara Cricket Club Grounds. The finals will be held at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
This event will feature three categories of play: the Masters Over-50, Masters Over-45, and the All-Stars. More than $1 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs. Teams from New York and Florida will be participating in the tournament alongside those from Guyana. The first ball is set to be bowled off at the MYO Ground where the Prime Minister himself, Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips will bowl off the first ball.

In the open All-Stars category, there are a total of six teams; in the Over-45, six, and in the Over-50, eight. The open teams are Regal, Speedboat, Success, Ariel, Airport and Brand Name, with Essequibo, Regal, Success, Fisherman, New York Cricket Doctors and Ariel Masters in the Over-45. The Over-50 category will see Orlando Legends, Regal, New York Hustlers, New York Softball Cricket League Legends, Carpet Doctors, Wellman, Floodlights, and Rockaway Legends. There will be free entry for all teams.

Keith Fraser scored 178 runs in the 2020 edition

All-Stars (open category); O-45 Fishermen Masters and O-50 Regal Legends, and they would all be keen to defend their titles. The Man-of-the-Series award for the Over-50 category went to Eric Thomas, who had scores of 117 and 120 and bagged three wickets. In the Over-45 category, Keith Fraser walked away with the bulk of the awards. These included the Man-of-the-Series and Man-of-the-Match awards. For the open category, Quintin Sampson was the Man of the Series.

The grand finale will have live radio and social media commentary. The National COVID-19 Task Force has set total capacity for the event at 40 per cent, and all COVID protocols will be in effect.
