6 in custody after gun, ammo find

Six men were taken into Police custody on Wednesday evening following the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and a matching round of live ammunition.

Based on reports received, Police ranks were conducting duties along Pine Apple Street, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown when six men were seen standing close to a motor car.

This prompted the Police to carry out a search on their person, but nothing was found. The Police further conducted a search around the area they were standing and it was then that a .32 pistol and one round of ammunition were discovered, hidden under a piece of wood.

Upon the discovery, the men all denied having knowledge of the items, but were nevertheless taken into Police custody. The Police are expected to dust their hands for gun powder residue.

Investigations are continuing.
