6 injured after driver loses control of speeding car

Six pedestrians are currently patients at the West Demerara Regional Hospital following a hit-and-run accident on Sunday afternoon, at Canal Number One Polder access road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
The injured persons are Lilowattie Barnabas, 29; Alana Grant, 15; eight-year-old Rajin Mahendranauth; Esha Mahendranauth, 8; three-year-old Mesha Margar, and seven-year-old Tanesha Mahendranauth.
According to the information received, a motor car was proceeding along the roadway at a fast rate when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle.
In the process, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with the group of pedestrians who were all walking on the grass parapet.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrians received multiple injuries about their bodies. They were all taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where they were treated and admitted.
Their conditions are said to be stable. Authorities are now in search of the driver of the car, who fled the scene. An investigation has been launched.
