Six persons have been detained by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) after three stop-and-search exercises unearthed three handguns and 21 rounds of live ammunition.
Based on Police information, the operations were conducted by officers of ‘A’ Division (Georgetown/East Bank Demerara) and ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/West Coast Demerara).
Reports are that at about 07:30h on Friday, a 40-year-old labourer of Buzz Bee Dam, Craig New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was intercepted by Police. During a search of the area, a gun without ammunition was unearthed.
Meanwhile, at Third Street, Agricola, at about 09:30h, a 22-year-old man of Curtis Street, Albouystown was arrested after a handgun with fourteen live rounds was found in his possession.
And on Saturday at about 00:20h, a vehicle was intercepted at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge, and four persons therein — two from Diamond Housing Scheme, EBD and two from Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD — were taken into custody after a gun with seven live rounds was found on one of the individuals.
The items were lodged and the six are expected to face charges in court.
