6 Police officers among Indian scholarship awardees

The six Police officers who were granted scholarships

Six Police officers and one logistics officer attached to the Home Affairs Ministry have been granted a one-week scholarship under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) programme to study in India.
These Police personnel are Police Constable Onika Samaroo of Georgetown; Lance Corporal Michael Hinds of West Bank Demerara; Police Sergeant Marsha Pereira of East Bank Demerara; Police Constable Jamal Fowler of East Bank Demerara; Police Sergeant Osbert Paul of Corentyne; and Police Constable Everette James of East Coast Demerara. The logistics officer is Delroy O’Neal of East Bank Demerara.
These seven scholarship recipients will be travelling to India to commence a programme in Infrastructure for Electric Vehicle (EV) Deployment, which commences on Monday, November 6, 2023 at the NTPC School of Business in Uttar Pradesh.
These scholarship recipients met with the Head of Chancery of the Indian High Commission, Mukesh Kaushik, who wished them the best and briefed them on the course and ongoing partnership between India and Guyana. They were also advised on the details and logistics of these training programmes. During the meeting, the officers expressed their gratitude to the High Commission and the Government of India.
The ITEC Programme comprises short-term courses at prestigious institutions of India given to selected partner countries across the world, and are available for all eligible Guyanese, not just officers of the Police and Defence Force.
The programme also covers all expenses related to the training, and provides the trainees with a return air ticket, accommodation charges, tuition fees, living expenses, medical expenses, and external and internal tours as per the course curriculum.
The Government of India has said it will continue to foster and build its relationship with the Government of Guyana.
