60 new COVID-19 cases recorded

Guyana on Sunday recorded 60 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 7641. Of this amount, 6591 have fully recovered from the virus. The total number of deaths since March 2020 is now 176, with the last death recorded on Friday. The latest fatality is a 53-year-old female from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
In its updated COVID-19 dashboard, the Health Ministry said that 60 new COVID-19 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours from some 1216 tests. Of the overall confirmed cases, 3957 are males, while the remaining 3684 are females.
There are currently five patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 57 in institutional isolation, 812 in home isolation, and 14 persons in institutional quarantine. Twenty-one recoveries were recorded on Saturday. To date, 49,765 persons have been tested for the life-threatening disease.

New cases
Of the 60 new cases, three were recorded in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 38 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), four in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice); nine in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), three in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and one each in Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) and Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Of the 7641 confirmed cases, 1004 are from Region One (Barima-Waini), 227 from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), 560 from Region Three, 3366 cases are from Region Four, and 204 from Region Five. In Region Six, 428 COVID-19 cases have been recorded, 618 in Region Seven, 234 in Region Eight, 410 in Region Nine, and 590 in Region 10.
As of Sunday, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported 102,083,344 confirmed cases globally along with 2,209,195 deaths. WHO also reported on Sunday that in the Region of the Americas, that is, Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 45,345,051 while the death toll stands at 1,047,171.
