60-year-old man found floating in trench

The badly decomposed body of a mentally-ill man was found floating in a trench at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) on Monday.
Vernon Jackson, 60, who resided in a makeshift shack under a tree in the village, is suspected to have drowned.
His body pulled from the murky water about 10:30h. Based on information received, Jackson was last seen about 08:00h on Friday last when he left the home of a cousin who he had gone to visit. The cousin, Guyana Times understands, lives in the same village.
The body was discovered by a passerby in the trench a short distance from where the man lived. The Police were contacted, but, based on reports received, the ranks could not say if the body bore any marks of violence. The body was transported to the Lyken Funeral Home to await a post-mortem examination.
Several persons in the area were questioned as Police await the results of the post-mortem.
