Home News 7 new COVID-19 cases recorded; 1 in ICU
Guyana’s confirmed COVID-19 cases have risen to 70,159 after seven new cases have been recorded within the last 24 hours. The number of active cases stands close to 450.
As of now, 442 persons are in home isolation, 13 in institutional isolation, two in institutional quarantine, and one in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
To date, some 68,431 persons have recovered from the life-threatening virus.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in Guyana, a total of 679,598 tests were conducted of which 32,136 males and 38,023 females tested positive.
A breakdown of the new infections shows one case for Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), and three each for Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), and Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
There were no increases in the other seven regions across the country.
According to the Health Ministry on Sunday, Guyana recorded its latest COVID-19 death, an 87-year-old male from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), who succumbed on Saturday, August 6, taking the number of COVID-19 deaths to 1272 in Guyana.
In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases is pegged at over 169 million with a death toll of 2.7 million. Globally, the confirmed positives stand at over 571 million with more than 6.3 million reported deaths.
