7 teams eliminated in competitive round

The second round of cricket in the second annual Digicel Triple Treat for teams on the Essequibo Coast concluded with seven teams advancing to the next round.

After a high scoring opening round with a few one-sided affairs, the action last Sunday at the Perseverance Beach was more competitive.

Ganesh Mangal was among the runs again for Affiance Storm but his 33 was not enough to save his team from defeat against Richmond Warriors. Batting first Affiance Storm managed 101-5 from their 10 overs with Mangal hitting the top score and getting support from Latchman Rohit with 30 as F. Ali claimed 2-14 from his two overs.

In reply, Richmond Warriors raced to 104-2 to come up with the eight-wicket win with seven balls to spare. S. Ahiram led the chase with an even unbeaten 50.

First round batting powerhouse, Die Hard remained unbeaten after beating Golden Fleece Sports Club by 22 runs. Vijay Surujpaul 66 not out and Patrick Rooplall 33 were instrumental in Die Hard putting up 128-5 from their 10 overs against steady bowling from Golden Fleece SC. However, Die Hard also put up a spirited and discipline bowling effort to restrict Golden Fleece in the run chase to 106-7 from their 10 overs. G. Singh hit 42 while Richard Latiff and Y. Mohammed took 2-16 each.

In other matches; Adventure Sports Club (114-7 from 10 overs. G. Sharma 50 not out; J. Baljodha 2-17 from 2 overs) beat AK Dealers (75 all out from 9.5 overs. R> Beharry 26; S. Sarabjeet 3-12 from 2 overs) by 39 runs.

United Warriors (119-3 from 8.3 overs. B. Mangar 42) beat GT Warriors (114-7 from 10 overs. D. Da Silva 38) by 7 wickets.

United Brothers (111-9 from 10 overs) beat Golden Fleece Young Warriors (98-6 from 10 overs) by 15 runs.

Invaders Masters (93-7 from 10 overs. R. Gonsalves 21; K. Singh 4-8 from 2 overs) beat El-Dorado (83 All out from 9 overs. B. McKoy 43; Ramesh Narine 6-4 from 2 overs) by 10 runs.

Devonshire Castle (169-5 from 10 overs) beat Fire Station (105-3 from 10 overs) by 64 runs.

The competition which continues on Sunday at the Perseverance Beach with quarter final matches will conclude on April 22 at the Anna Regina Community Centre when the sizzling duck curry competition will be held along with the grand stage show and closing ceremony.
