7-year-old critical after being struck by car

A seven-year-old boy is now in a critical state after he was struck down by a motor car along the Lovely Lass Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB), on Sunday morning.
The injured lad is Jayden Cheeffoon. He remains a patient at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital suffering from head injuries and a fractured shoulder.
Police stated that on the day in question at about 11:00h, a motor car bearing registration number HC 9812, which was being driven by a 50-year-old man, was proceeding along the roadway.
However, the driver alleged that the child suddenly ran across the road from behind a parked car.
Despite him applying breaks, he noted that the front portion of his motor car collided with the child, thus causing him to fall to the ground.
He was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital where he was treated and referred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he underwent further treatment. He was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The driver was detained as investigations continue.
