Home News 74-year-old man latest COVID fatality, 62 new cases recorded
A fully-vaccinated 74-year-old man of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) is Guyana’s latest COVID-19 fatality, thus taking the death toll to 1229.
He reportedly died while receiving medical care at a health institution.
New statistics provided by the Health Ministry showed that there were 427 active cases with the detention of 63 new ones within the previous 24-hour period.
The positive cases reported to date total 64,082. There are two persons in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 25 in institutional isolation, 426 in home isolation, and one in institutional quarantine.
Of the 63 new cases, five are from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); two from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 45 from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), one from Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice); seven from Region Six, and two from Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
The Ministry also stated that 54 persons have recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the number of recovered cases to 62, 400.
Vaccination figures remain the same, indicating that 441,071 first doses and 340,572 second doses were distributed to adults. This is approximately 86 per cent and 66.4 per cent, respectively, of the population. For children aged 12 to 17, 25,355, or 34.7 per cent, are completely vaccinated. Booster shot administration also remains the same, with 63,574 jabs having already been administered.
