Home News 78-year-old killed in hit and run
A hit and run accident along Lamaha Street, Georgetown, claimed the life of a 78-year-old pedestrian in the wee hours of Monday. Dead is 78-year-old Veronica Lewis of Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Based on reports received, the unknown motor vehicle is suspected to be white in colour but the registration number, owner, driver, and other particulars remain unidentified.
Details surrounding the incident outline that the elderly woman was on the southern side of Lamaha Street, in the vicinity of Waterloo Street, when she was struck down by an unknown vehicle that failed to stop.
As a result, the pedestrian was left lying on the road’s surface with severe head and other injuries about her body. Minutes after the accident, the Ambulance Service attached to the Georgetown Public Hospital was contacted and the elderly woman was pronounced dead.
The body was taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting post-mortem. The Police are continuing their investigations.
