As the Lennox Blackmoore Intermediate Boxing Competition commences today at the National Gymnasium, the three-day event will feature eight teams from across the country vying for the top honours.
In the spotlight are the defending champions, Guyana Defence Force (GDF) who have already listed one of the biggest teams to enter the competition with 30 contenders.
While 2014 winners, Republicans will be the main force who could dethrone the reigning champions having 20 boxers in their corner.
The former champions will feel confident with the likes of middleweight Geraldo Phillips and Joshua Joseph who was the best boxer at the novice level.
However, flyweight Don Cumberbatch, lightweights Travis Hubbard and Jamal Brisport, junior welterweight Colin Hinds and light heavyweight Renaldo Niles are all going to bring the fight to the republicans in an effort to retain the title.
Apart from the two powerhouses, stern competition is expected to come from the other six teams which include Essequibo boxing Gym, the Albouystown based Forgotten Youth foundation whose boxers are trained by veteran coach, Sebert Blake, two teams from Linden; Pocket Rocket Gym and Carill Gym and two from the ancient county, Rose Hall Jammers and Young Achievers gym.
The action begins from 19:00h and continues until Sunday.
