8 in custody following discovery of guns

A total of eight persons, including an interdicted Police rank, were arrested on Friday evening following the discovery of two guns in separate incidents.
First, a 26-year-old known character was nabbed in Garnette Street, Albuoystown Georgetown after he had an unlicensed .32 pistol and eight live matching rounds on his person.
Based on information received, ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department Headquarters were patrolling the Albouystown community when they stopped and search the Garnette Street resident. Ballistics tests are expected to be conducted on the firearm to determine if the weapon had been used in the commission of any crime.
Secondly, seven persons, including an interdicted Police officer, were detained after a .38 revolver with a spent shell in its chambers was found in close proximity to them. The men were at the time engaged in a game of chance at Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara.
Police state that two of the detainees are members of the Police Force, and one is currently interdicted and is reportedly renting a ‘mobile outlet ‘at the said location. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
