Eight teams immediately found the ‘exit’ as the East Coast Leg of the Guinness Greatest of the Street Futsal Competiton got underway on Wednesday evening at the Haslington Tarmac.
Belfield Warriors, Buxton Diamond, Beterverwagting A, Uprising, Paradise A, Melaine B and Mahaica Determinators have progressed to the round robin stage of the fast paced tournament which resumes on Saturday, March 31.
A total 12 matches are scheduled to take place on Saturday with the first encounter being kicked off at 19:00 hrs.
Belfield Warriors, Buxton Diamond and Paradise A all produced 3 – 0 wins over Plaisance A, Mahaica Guinness Bar and Plaisance B, respectively.
Uprising sank Melaine A 2 – 0 while Determinators and Beterverwagting A needled Haslington Hypers and Police B.
Beterverwagting B and Victoria ChurchYard battled to a goalless match but the winner was decided on penalty kicks as the latter prevailed 3 – 2.
Melaine B found a 2 – 0 win via penalty kicks after finishing nil all in their match with Buxton.
Over $700,000 in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs over three days, while the Plate final carries a first prize of $50,000.
The winning team in the competition will receive $400,000, while second, third and fourth place finishers take home $150,000, $100,000 and $75,000 respectively.
