Public Works Minister Juan Edghill, in presenting the ‘emergency budget’ to the 12th Parliament on Wednesday, announced a whopping Gy$805M allocation to Sport in Guyana.
That notwithstanding, the National Sports Commission would receive $185M for the continuation of various projects.
“Our vision for embracing diversity and exploring the talents of our people has always been the focus. To this end, $2.7B has been allocated for Culture, Youth and Sport, for which $805.3M is for Sports,” Edghill revealed.
Further, he disclosed, “Mr. Speaker, in the area of Sports, as we look to revitalise the National Sports Programme while simultaneously reconfiguring how we undertake them in the pandemic, this year we are going to be undertaking initial work on mini- stadiums in Regions 2, 6 and 10, and the Guyana-China Friendship Park.
“Additionally, $185M has been allocated for the National Sports Commission (NSC) to accelerate works on the synthetic tracks in Regions 6 and 10, as well as the purchase of sports gear and ground enhancement.”
The three sport facilities in Regions 2, 6 and 10 are slated to be multipurpose.
