On January 28, thirty-three energetic performers took to the stage for the semi-final of the International Chutney Soca Monarch (ICSM) in the LIV Nightlife, South Trunk Road, La Romaine, Trinidad and Tobago, but at the end of the night, only nine moved forward to the finals.

After some fierce competition and well-choreographed acts, the artistes impressed the judges and more so, their fans who turned up in their numbers to be a part of the exciting event. For the first time in history, a female did not advance to the final.
The judges thought that “Ravi B” with his cross-over hit “Budget” outshone his
competitors at the semifinal, followed by Omadath Maharaj with his tune, “Ramsingh Sharma”.
However, the semi-final was one of the most keenly contested in years and now nine artistes will move forward to compete against the defending champion, Kris “KI” Persad, on Saturday, February 11, at Skinner Park, San Fernando.
Those moving forward to compete against KI are Michael Ramroop, also known as “Showtime”; Ravi B; Rick Ramoutar; Rikki Jai; Nishard Mayrhoo; Omadath Maharaj; Rooplal G; Lalchan Babwah, also known as “Hunter”; and Shivan R and Slammer Cutter.
The defending Champion, KI, is excited and is ready to defend his title. If he wins the contest this year, it will be his 4th title. His tune, “KI Make Me Do It” has been topping charts and without a doubt, he is the favourite to win the title.
He promises come February 11, his performance will be diverse and unique with some thrills and surprises. The reigning International Chutney Monarch, however, wished his fellow contestants the best of luck.
