A nine-member swim team has jetted off to Peru, where they will vie for honours in the Junior South American Swimming Championships which begin next Monday. The event will run from November 8 to 14 in Peru.

This team consists of Guyana’s youngest Olympian, Aleka Persaud; Junior Pan American Games qualifiers Leon Seaton Jr and Patrice Mahaica; and Amber DeGoeas, Ariel Rodrigues, Shareffah Lewis, Daniel Claxton, Nathan Jackson and Elliot Gonsalves.
The young swimmers are accompanied by Coaches Shyka Gonsalves and Sean Baksh, while Loren Mahaica is the team’s chaperone.
Being close in proximity to the start of the first-ever Junior Pan American Games, a multisport event for the younger crop of athletes in the Pan Am region, the SA Junior Championships will act as a great preparatory competition for the likes of Persaud, Seaton Jr and Mahaica. Paul Mahaica is also a part of the Guyanese team for the Pan Am event.
The trip to Peru, according to the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA), has received support from the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA).
