9-year-old critical after Corentyne accident

A nine-year-old girl is now in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was on Wednesday afternoon struck down by a reckless driver in Number 68 Village, Corentyne.
The young girl has been identified as Cristina Lakeram of Lot 111 Number 68 Village, Corentyne.
According to reports, 25-year-old Seenarine Shamlall of Number 77 Village, Corentyne, was driving his motor car, HC 7751, around 13:00h when the accident occurred.
Enquiries disclosed that Shamlall was proceeding south along the eastern side allegedly at a fast pace when Lakeram, a student of the Number 68 Primary School, reportedly ran out into the path of the car.
She was quickly picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Skeldon Hospital, but was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and then to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Shamlall was taken into Police custody where a breathalyser test was conducted and he was found to have no alcohol in his system. His vehicle is lodged at the Springlands Police Station as an investigation into the accident continues.
