Ecstasy pills convict a former student – School of the Nations

The School of the Nations on Monday said that 20-year-old John Adams, who was sentenced to three years in prison for possession of ecstasy pills, is a former student of the institution and not presently attending classes there as was reported by the local media, including Guyana Times, last week.

According to the school, Adams was transferred from the educational facility in 2012 to another city school.
“According to our records, Mr Adams exited School of the Nations in 2012 after completing Form One and was transferred by his parents to another school,” Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the school, Dr Dexter Phillips said in a statement on Monday.
Adams appeared before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday last and pleaded guilty to a charge that on February 20, 2019, at Princes Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession eight ecstasy pills, which amounted to five grams.
Adams was intercepted about 21:00h while he was riding his motorcycle along Princes Street. A search was conducted on his person and the illegal drug was found.
The Chief Magistrate jailed him for three years and fined him $30,000.
