Lusignan welding shop goes up in flames

The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) is currently investigating the circumstances which led to a fire on Monday evening at a welding shop at Lusignan on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD).
Reports are that the Fire Department was alerted about the fire at about 20:55h and dispatched water tenders from the Alberttown, Campbellville, and Melanie Fire Stations to the Lot 271 Public Road Lusignan, ECD location.

The structure, which was a wooden and concrete building of two floors, is owned by Joseph Mohammed and was occupied by Jamalodeen Mohammed as a welding shop.
As a result of the fire, the building and its contents were destroyed. One jet from the original tank supply and two jets from an open water source were used to extinguish the blaze.
Investigations are ongoing to determine what caused the fire.
An ambulance and crew from the Guyana Fire and Rescue Service and the Police were also present at the scene, the Fire Service said.
The Guyana Fire Service said it continues to call for the appropriate fire prevention and response measures to be put in place to avoid the loss of private and public buildings and to avoid the risk of injury and loss of life.
Only a week ago a four-year-old boy perished after a fire destroyed a Tucville Squatting Area, Georgetown home. The child was identified only as Jemel.
