2 new infections take active COVID-19 cases to 145

Another two females have tested positive for the novel coronavirus within a 24-hour period, according to new statistics provided by the Health Ministry on Saturday.
With this, the total number of confirmed cases in Guyana has gone up to 63,183. But only 145 of these are currently active cases.
This includes four patients in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the remaining 141 persons in isolation, that is, 12 in institutional isolation and the other 129 in home isolation.
Additionally, there are also 12 more persons in institutional quarantine.
Since the Health Ministry did not report any new fatalities on Saturday, the country’s COVID-19 death toll remains at 1226. The last COVID fatality reported was the death of an 83-year-old female from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), who died on March 15. She was fully vaccinated.
To date, some 61,812 persons have recovered from the life-threatening disease in the country.
Meanwhile, since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Guyana, a total 558,874 tests have been conducted countrywide and of this, some 29,093 males and 34,090 females were found to be positive.
Of the two new cases recorded on Friday, one was from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) and the other case was from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).
There were no new cases in the other eight regions across the country within the reporting 24-hour period.
This declining trend in COVID-19 cases has resulted in the Guyana Government last week removing most restrictions as the country moves to recover from the pandemic and return to normalcy.
But while mandates such as masking in public and social distancing are no longer in place, health authorities are still encouraging persons to get vaccinated, and for those who are qualified to get their booster shots, in order to add a layer of protection against the virus.
