GPF promises thorough probe into accident that claimed life of Sophia teen

A team of ranks from Police Regional Division 4A on Tuesday visited the home of the late Makida Quick, 14, who recently lost her life in a motor vehicular accident in her community at Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
The team was led by Superintendent Carol Harding, accompanied by Deputy Superintendent Timothy Williams, Assistant Superintendent Alvin Hoyte along with Inspectors Gavin Boyce, Devon Lowe and other ranks within the Division.
During the visit, ranks met and interacted with the teen’s grieving family members, who were still traumatised by the brutal nature in which their loved one was killed.
Superintendent Harding, who is Second-in-Command of the Division, expressed sincere condolences to the grieving family on behalf of the Commissioner and ranks of the Force and assured them that a thorough and comprehensive investigation is underway and that no stone will be left unturned.

Meanwhile, Williams in his address to the family, highlighted that the Police Force will continue to offer support to them throughout this time.

Coordinator of the National Road Safety Council Ramona Doorgen, and head of the Education Sub-Committee on the National Road Safety Council Carol Benn were also part of the visit to offer words of comfort and pledged their organisations’ support to Vossey and her family during this period.
It was reported that motorcycle CK 7840 – ridden by 21-year-old Glenton Redman of Section E Field Sophia, ECD, was speeding south along the eastern side of Section E Field Main Access Road in a lying position on his motorcycle which he allegedly lost control of and collided with 14-year-old pedal cyclist Makida Quick – a student of Tucville Secondary School who resided at Lot 668 Section D Field, Sophia, ECD.
Reports disclosed that Quick was riding south along the eastern side of Section E Field Main Access Road whilst Redman was speeding in the said direction. As a result of the collision, Quick was flung some distance in the air before falling into a nearby drain while Glenton Redman fell onto the road’s surface.
Quick along with Redman were picked up in an unconscious condition and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit where Makida Quick was pronounced dead on arrival, and the body was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem.
