Police raids in Region 3 unearth ganja, unlicensed motorcycles

Several raids were conducted in numerous communities in Regional Division Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), and have unearthed a quantity of marijuana, as well as unlicensed motorcycles.

Reports are that a party of Police ranks conducted an intelligence-led operation on Sunday between 10:00 and 16:00h.
The first raid was done at Tuschen Market Square, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), where a search was conducted on a 21-year-old self-employed man of Tuschen, EBE. During the search, a wrapped brown paper parcel was found that contained leaves, seeds, and stems of cannabis.
The 21-year-old admitted ownership and was escorted to the Leonora Police Station where the narcotics were weighed and amounted to one gram.
Meanwhile, in Vergenoegen, EBE, a 19-year-old was intercepted while riding his motorcycle in front of the Two Brothers Gas Station, without a licence plate. He was searched and nothing illegal was found. However, when questioned further about the motorcycle he was riding, he indicated that he was an unlicensed rider, and the motorcycle had no documents.
He was subsequently escorted to the Leonora Police Station.

Meanwhile, several persons at a “fowl ring” were searched by the Police ranks during which one gram of marijuana was found on a 35-year-old male of Tuschen, EBE. The man was told of the offence, arrested, and then escorted to the Leonora Police Station.
At De Kinderen, WCD, a search was conducted on a 25-year-old man and one gram of cannabis was found on his person and he admitted ownership. He was told of offence committed, arrested, and escorted to the Leonora Police Station where the marijuana was weighed in his presence.
Another search was also conducted at De Kinderen, WCD, in an abandoned lot covered with trees and bush, where two black plastic bags tied about six feet in the air on a tree was found.
Upon further checking, a number of seeds, leaves, and stems of cannabis were found inside. It was collected and taken to the Leonora Police Station, where it was weighed and amounted to 4651 grams.
Meanwhile, at Parika, EBE, a search was conducted on the home of a 52-year-old self-employed man of Peter Street, Parika, EBE, where a black motorcycle was discovered. When questioned, the man was unable to produce any documentation for the motorcycle. The motorcycle was taken and lodged at the Parika Police Station.
