Bowling wins by landslide in LGC Year End Tournament

…Harry cops second, carting off all supplementary prizes

The indomitable Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) Secretary, Chet Bowling, a rookie soon to be promoted to a reduced handicap, ran away with the game as he led the field by five lengths with a net 55 score. Bowling’s net score of 55 meant he bettered his handicap by a whopping 15 strokes.
His nearest competitor, veteran golfer David Harry, came in second with a net score of 60, in the exciting novelty String Golf Tournament (followed by the Club’s Christmas Social) held on Sunday, December 9, 2023 at the Lusignan Golf Club.
Harry also won the Nearest To The Pin and Longest Drive prizes, making him a three-time winner in the day’s tournament. In that specialty prizes area, Club Captain Pope London earned the Best Dressed Golfer prize, while rookie Jason Clarke received the Most Honest Golfer prize.

Coming up keenly at third place in the Net Tournament were Guyana’s current female champion golfer, Shanella London with a net 61, pipping former Club Captain, veteran golfer Patrick Prashad with net 61 also. Current holder of the Tobago Female Champion Golfer trophy, Eureka Giddings scored net 63 to come in fifth, while Club Vice President Brian Hackett produced a fine round to finish sixth with a net 64.
The unique tournament, coordinated and organised by Board Member Anasha Ally, which involved participants using a given length of string to be cut at appropriate times to make up for a stroke, had never been played by many of the golfers, so the event was thrilling and memorable as they thoroughly enjoyed themselves in the play. The very good hamper prizes were greatly appreciated by the golfers.
During the Club Social which followed, golfers participated in a sumptuous meal then heartily sang Christmas songs, led by Patrick Prashad on the guitar. Vice President Hackett clearly and especially expressed heartfelt gratitude to the sponsors – ANSA McAL; Banks DIH Ltd; Guyana Marriott International Hotel; Massy, Guyana; and Survival Supermarket – for their significant contribution to the participants’ happiness and the day’s events’ resounding success.
