Agriculture Minister, driver discharged from hospital following WCB accident
Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, who escaped with minor injuries after a car collided with his vehicle along the Foulis Public Road, West Coast Berbice (WCB), has been discharged following medical examination.
The accident occurred about 17:48h, as Minister Mustapha was being driven by 32-year-old Dasrat Debeion in motor vehicle PYY 994, owned by the Agriculture Ministry.
The other vehicle, PYY 7716, was owned and driven by Delon Campbell, a 38-year-old from Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Enquiries disclosed that the Minister’s vehicle was proceeding west along the southern side of Foulis Public Road while Campbell was proceeding in the opposite direction and attempted to overtake a black Fielder Wagon, but ended up in the Minister’s lane.
In a split second, he collided with the right side of the Minister’s vehicle. Another vehicle also suffered damage. Mustapha, his driver and the driver of the other car were taken out of their vehicles in a conscious state and transported to a private city hospital where they sought medical attention.
They were examined and discharged with minor injuries. A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of motor car PYY 7716, but no trace of alcohol was found on his breath.
Police are reviewing CCTV footage of the accident. A notice of intended prosecution was served to Campbell, who is in custody assisting with the investigation.
