GFF discloses additional plans for Providence facility

As construction works continue at the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) National Training Center at Providence, President of the Federation, Wayne Forde, disclosed that there are now additional plans for the improvement of the facility.
Giving an update on the facility, Forde said, “The facility is going very well. Of course the weather has halted the installation of the playing surface.”
He went on to explain that, in a recent visit to the facility, it was discovered that the final levelling was damaged due to the ongoing inclement weather. This has halted any pending installations at the facility. However, works are scheduled to resume as soon as there is better weather. According to Forde, within three weeks of the recommencement of those works, the turf should be ready.

Aside from that, Forde disclosed, there are additional plans for the utilization of the facility. “What we’re going to do with Providence, we’ve shifted the focus; the key objective is to bring Providence up to a state that it’s functional for the preparation of the teams,” Forde stated.
He explained that the Federation would usually spend approximately US$2000 for hotels or other accommodations in order to facilitate preparatory camps. However, the Federation plans to cut out that cost by making use of an existing building at Providence.
“The existing building that we inherited with that facility we’re putting some investment into it, modifying it,” he stated. Those modifications would include the installment of dorms, proper washrooms, a kitchen area, and a technical department.
Even during the rehabilitation of that building, construction works at the facility would continue as per normal. The GFF is expecting to receive the four aluminum pre-fab stands soon, which have a holding capacity of between 1000 and 1500 persons. However, the key focus at the moment continues to be encampment facilities. “Ultimately, we want to get to a point where we can host a certain level of games, but the key driver is being able to bring the teams in for encampment,” Forde explained.
