− as he reflects on his basketball season and his patient wait to return to the court
Stanton Rose Jr is furthering his education by moving to St Mary’s University in the USA, and is also actively pursuing his dream of playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Eagerly awaiting the end of the COVID-19 pandemic so that he might recommence playing competitive basketball, Rose recently chatted with this publication about the high and low points of his career, and what he is look forward to when sports resume.Asked what was the low point of his career, Rose responded: “My low point, to be honest, was when I started to battle with injuries.
I couldn’t score at all! If I can recall, there was like one or two games that I was unable to contribute. I mean, I got to play, but the injuries kept me back. “Earlier on in the season, I started to have knee pains, I didn’t hit it (the knee), but it (the pain) continued to persist. Then, coming on to the second part of the season, the bottom of my feet began to pain. I don’t know if it was the shoes, but it pained a lot, and I couldn’t run on it that well; but, nevertheless, I was able to run on it.”Detailing what his high point was, Rose said: “My high point would be when I was able to contribute to winning the games, as this pleased me a lot. I was able to overcome my lows and contribute offensively and defensively. I was able to score big!“There was this one game (in which) I was able to shoot six three-pointers in the second half, and that performance brought us back in the game, and we won (it). From there, we had a few other games, and I was able to contribute; and that was basically my high point. I was able to battle my injuries and return to my normal self.”He was asked what he hopes to achieve after the pandemic has ended, and his response was: “I’m trying to get better all round. I’m trying to win championships. I want to be able to take the next team to the next level. I just want to train hard.“I haven’t touched a basketball for two months, but be assured that I will be back, and better. Right now, I’m just trying to use this time to focus on my mental health, so I can be mentally ready.” (Timothy Jaikarran)
