A night of upsets!

The group matches of the GT Beer sponsored Petra Organised Futsal Championships continued on Saturday evening at the National Gymnasium and crowd favourites Sparta Boss and Broad Street Bullies were on the receiving end of defeats.
Back Circle got the better of the Sparta Boss, winning 3-2, as Stephon McLean scored the winning goal in the 30?th minute while teammate Selwyn William helped with a brace (20th and 23rd). For the inaugural losing finalist, Cleon Forester (17th) and Devon Millington (21st) efforts were not enough.
Likewise, a youthful and talented Sophia Unit got edged powerhouses Broad Street 3-2 in match that had the massive and passionate crowd on their feet.
Leonnox Cort gave Broad Street the early lead in the 9th minute but Sophia had splendid second half, as Shemroy Arthur (21st), Simon Emmanuel (26th) and Orlando Jordon (27th) powered their side glory; Cort returned to score his second in the 29th minute.
Meanwhile, defending champions Bent Street hammered Albouystown 9-1 with goals coming off the heels of Joshua Brown (20th and 21st), William Europe (30th and 31st), Anthony Abrams (11th), Wendell St. Hill (14th), Konata Manning (18th), Sheldon Holder (22nd) and Okeene Fraser (25th); Nicholas Adams scored for the losers in the 27th.

Jermin Junior’s hat-trick led Tucville to their first victory as they defeated West Back Road 4-2. Junior netted in the 11th, 16th and 29th while Jahaal Greaves scored in the 22nd. For West Back, Jamal Haynes tried to help his side avoid a second successive defeat when he scored in the 10th and 19th minutes.
Tigerbay’s 3-2 victory over Agricola Champion Boys was orchestrated by Deon Alfred’s brace , netting in the 18th and 28th while Mario Bascom added the other in the 12th; Delray Dodson scored a double (2nd and 29th) in a losing cause.
Similarly, Randolph Wagner’s 20th minute goal helped West Front Road-Gold is Money defeat North East La Penitence 1-0.
Top two finishers at the end of the round-robin stage, and the two best third ranked teams from the respective groups, will progress to the quarterfinal phase.
The winner of the tournament is set to pocket $400,000 and the championship trophy; while the second, third and fourth placed finishers will collect $200,000, $100,000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
The championship will resume on Thursday at the aforementioned venue from 19:30hrs.
