A village that is now in darkness

Dear Editor,

Since the government announced the closure of the Wales Sugar Estate, hundreds are now worried about the next step they will take to provide food for their families. Wales and Patentia have now become villages of broken promises and hearts, the business community is in need for a recovery, as shops are being forced to close due to the economic downturn. Many businesses, farmers, vendors and taxi drivers are calling on the government to rethink their action because it will bring about bitter tears in the lives of many persons.

As schools are about to reopen, many parents are in distress about the welfare of their children, these days going to school takes a lot out of parents to satisfy the needs of their children. Parents are generally worried about their children’s future in school, because without the estate, they will not provide sufficient income to satisfy their needs.

Now that everyone has come to know about the harsh reality, it is time for us to accept and hope for the best. Many had wanted change and wanted a ‘good life’ promised by this administration, so here is it, embrace it.

Where would the many workers turn to that are currently out of jobs and those that will soon be dismissed? I ask, is this the ‘good life?’ Where would the youths turn to now? As many dreams are crushed.

Sincerely,

Pt Surendra Tiwari
