AAG to throw full support behind Caesar

By Michelangelo Jacobus

The stellar performances of Guyana’s ‘Golden Boy,’ Compton Caesar, have produced a decision from the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) to employ all its resources to help nurture what is possibly Guyana’s next best hope for an international track star.
Having dominated the National Schools Championships for a number of years, Caesar took his prowess to another level when he won an historic Gold in the 100M event at the CARIFTA Games in April. He proved himself to be no flash in the pan when he produced a superb run on home tuff to win the 100M event at the South American Under-20 Championships on Saturday. The powerful sprinter has set a new National U-20 100-metres’ record with a personal best time of 10.37s running against a wind of -3.1.

AAG President Aubrey Hutson congratulates Compton Caesar after his 100 metres’ triumph

“Compton is in a situation right now where he is achieving for himself the goals that he set himself; and all we can do is try to assist him in achieving those goals,” Aubrey Hutson, president of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG), told Guyana Times Sport in an interview on Monday.
He added, “Compton has a God-given gift, and he is using that gift to the best of his ability. And I’m going to say this much: I have confidence in Compton achieving the things he wants to achieve using the methods he chooses. All we can do as an association is support him.”
On behalf of the AAG, Hutson congratulated Caesar on his hard work, saying: “You just don’t show up and run fast, you have to train. Compton knows this…”
A day after the South American U-20 Championships, Hutson revealed that he has already received a call from a corporate giant, enquiring how they could assist in the development of Compton. This, he noted, bodes well for the athlete’s future.
Caesar, who hails from Linden and is a former Wisburg Secondary School student, has already secured a scholarship to the University of Guyana, compliments of the National Sports Commission (NSC); and Guyana Times Sport wishes him all the best as he learns to conquer life’s challenges both on and off the track.
