Abusive son beats mother in drunken rage

A Bess Village, West Coast Demerara (WCD) mother is now nursing a broken arm and lacerations to her body after she was beaten by her drunken son.
Sixty-seven-year-old Joyce Lall was severely beaten by her son at her Lot 17 Best Village, WCD home on Friday evening.

Guyana Times understands that the woman’s son and daughter-in-law were imbibing at the back of the house when a dispute arose. Neighbours said that it was a frequent feature for the man and his wife to curse the woman when they are drunk. However, on Friday evening, the verbal abuse went further and the victim’s son threatened to kill her.
According to reports, the drunken man armed himself with a piece of wood and dealt his mother several lashes about her body while her frightened daughter and granddaughter looked on helplessly. A neighbour responded to screams from the woman and her daughter and rushed the Lall to the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Lall suffered a broken arm and bruises about her body.

Police Commander of Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), Assistant Police Commissioner Simon McBean, when contacted on Saturday revealed that the suspect is in Police custody. He said that the suspect will be charged shortly.
