Accused chain snatcher on $30,000 bail

An East La Penitence, Georgetown resident during last week found himself in hot water after he allegedly stole a gold chain. The 21-year-old man appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts after he was charged.
Shemar Samuels, of Lot 87 East La Penitence, Georgetown, stood before Principle Magistrate Leron Daly and denied the charge which read that on April 2, 2019, at Industrial Site, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, he stole from the person of Amanda Dukharan, one gold chain valued at $31,000.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh informed the court that on April 2 at about 16:00h, the Virtual Complainant was standing on the road when the defendant approached her on a bicycle, snatched the chain from her neck and rode away.
However, the Virtual Complainant raised an alarm and with the help of public-spirited persons and the police, Samuels was apprehended after which a search was conducted on his person and the chain was found.
Prosecutor Singh did not object to bail but requested that conditions be attached.
As a result, Samuels was released on $30,000 bail and ordered to report to the Alberttown Police Station weekly until the completion of the case.
The case will continue on May 7, 2019.
