Accused ganja trafficker remanded

Forty-five-year-old Paul Smith of Lot 108 Thomas Street, Kitty Georgetown on Monday appeared before City Magistrate Judy Latchman on a charge detailing that on May 18 last, at Kitty, he had in his possession 4.934 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
Accompanied by his legal counsel, Attorney George Thomas, Smith denied the charge, and Thomas, in a bail application, told the court that the drug was found in his client’s neighbour’s yard.
Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore, however, refuted this claim, and revealed that the illegal substance was discovered in the bottom flat of a house which Smith occupies.
Moore revealed that ranks acting on information contacted Smith with a request to search the two-storey house he occupies. The cannabis was accordingly discovered, and the defendant was arrested and later charged.
Smith has been remanded to prison, and the case has been set to continue on June 11.
