Accused purse snatcher to spend Christmas in jail

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Friday remanded a 31-year-old miner to prison on a charge of snatching a woman’s purse.
Delroy Boyce of Kingston, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and denied the offence which read that on December 17, 2019, at Brickdam, Georgetown, he stole one purse valued $3000, a cellular phone valued $55,000 and $25,000 property of Amanda Dunn. The prosecution contended that the Virtual Complainant was standing on Brickdam when Boyce brazenly approached and snatched her purse. The court heard that the miner, who made good his escape, was later arrested after swift action by Police.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail on the grounds of the prevalence of the offence and the penalty it attracts.
He was remanded and the case will continue on January 3, 2020.
