Accused serial robber slapped with new robbery charge
An accused serial robber, who has faced a string of robbery charges, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Monday, slapped with a new robbery charge.
Chris Pollard of Lot 53 David Street, Kitty, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and denied the charge which alleged that on September 13, 2019, at Camp Street, Georgetown, while being in the company of others, he robbed Bob Sachin of a cell phone valued at $44,000 and $1000.
Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris informed the court that on September 13, at about 17:30h, the Virtual Complainant was walking along Camp Street and was using his cellular phone when the 18-year-old snatched it.
According to the prosecution’s case, the VC subsequently saw the defendant and two others and decided to approach them, when he was told by the defendant “don’t do nothing before we do you something.”
Nevertheless, the VC raised an alarm and two police officers who were on duty nearby give chase and Pollard was apprehended.
The prosecutor objected to bail being granted on the grounds that the defendant has five pending matters in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and two at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. All the charges he is currently facing are of a similar nature.
Prosecutor Harris further stated that the defendant elevated from simple larceny to robbery.
The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, remanded Pollard to prison. The case will continue on October 7, 2019.
The teen was also charged in 2018 for stealing his father’s gun and was recently released on bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
