The family of the late Aslam Baksh of Old Road, La Grange, West Bank Demerara has opted to settle with the defendant, Vijay Bidoor, following Baksh’s demise by road accident on January 1, 2018.

At a recent appearance at the Wales Magistrate’s Court, the charge was re-read and Bidoor entered a not-guilty plea on allegations that he had driven motor car HB 1505 in a dangerous manner on January 1, 2018, thereby causing the death of Baksh on the Meer Zorgen public road, WBD.
Bidoor’s attorney, Melvin Duke, informed the court there is “an agreement in place with relatives”, and Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool gave the prosecution time to send the matter for advice.
The 24-year-old Aslam Baksh was the first road fatality for 2018. The only son of his parents, Baksh died just a few metres away from his home.
Police had noted that the wash bay attendant died following a two car smash-up at Meer-Zorgen, at around 02:15h on New Year’s Day. Investigations had revealed that the dead man was a passenger of the motorcar driven by 42-year-old Bidoor of Goed Fortuin, WBD.
Amanda Rickyram, 28, of Unity Street, La Grange, WBD; Gobin Dannyram, 29, of 225 Goed Fortuin; and Diana Chand, 19, of Cemetery Road, Georgetown, had all been passengers in the same car, proceeding south along the Meer-Zorgen Public Road when the hire car, proceeding in the opposite direction, drove into their path and collided with them.
They reportedly had sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, and were later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where Baksh succumbed while receiving medical attention.
The dead man’s father, Karim Baksh, had told Guyana Times that Aslam sustained severe head injuries, along with a broken nose and jaw, and half of his tongue had been severed.
“He got head injuries. He broke his nose, jaw, tongue cut out, lost all his teeth, and his brain damaged. He was semi-conscious when we see he, and lil bit after we see he, them tell we that he dead,” the elderly man had told this publication in January.
The matter continues at the Wales Magistrate’s Court on May 3.
