Home Sports Action heating up in Cancer Awareness Female Futsal tournament
The Alex Bunbury Sports and Academics Academy (ABSAA) organized “We Believe” Cancer Awareness Female Futsal Cup continued on Monday evening at the National Gymnasium.
The competition is featuring teams named after cancer survivors and is in observance of breast cancer awareness month.
On Monday evening, team Ena Persaud took on team Rajkumari Persaud and won 6-4. Scoring for Team Ena was Sasha James with three goals, Annulisa Johnson with 2 and Shamika Marcus with one. Meanwhile, team Rajkumari scorers were Terryka Joseph and Shanya Daniels with a brace each.
Team Evette Bunbury edged Bibi Hassan 3-2 courtesy of a Tiandi Smith brace and a single goal from Nicole Leacock while Lakeisa Pearson netted Bibi’s two goals.
In game three of the night, team Nicola Schultz hit eight past Rosline Clarke who could only muster two in reply. Shamika Marcus was the star for Team Nicola hitting four goals while Terryka Joseph had a brace with Salene Chan and Shania Riley bagging a goal apiece. Scoring for Team Rosline were Annulisa Johnson and Sasha James.
Team Francine Leitch needled team Bibi Ali with Shanya Daniels scoring. In the final game on the night, the Christine Jordan Team snuck past team Vonette Mayers courtesy of a Lakesha Pearson brace and a goal from Shamika Marcus. Stacy Adams put up a brief resistance for Team Vonette with two goals.
The sponsors of the tournament are NAMIlCO, the Outdoor sports & Pet shop, Metro Office & Computer Supplies who have recently come on board.
In addition the ABSAA team expressed gratitude to the Guyana Football Federation, National Sports Commission, ABSAA, Guyana Cancer Foundation and Leading Edge.
Additionally Samuel Bunbury, Jaime Pablo and Kirk Bunbury have been on board from the beginning.
